Understanding Cellulite

5

As we age these types of tissues become ridged and lose their elasticity.  When these specific fibrous bands become ridged they pull the two layers of the skin closer together causing an outpouching of the superficial layer of fat.  This is the common formation of the “dimpling” effect of our skin.
What cellulite is NOT:

⦁ First and foremost… it is not your fault!!!

⦁ It is not a loss of elasticity of your skin.  Loose skin is a real thing with age; however, that doesn't cause cellulite.

⦁ It is not a lack of going to the gym.  Plenty of women that work out 6 days a week have cellulite.

⦁ And lastly, loud and clear….  It is NOT fat!!!

Treatment Options

According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, there are only a few forms of treatment of cellulite that are not only FDA approved but also are effective in reducing cellulite for a prolonged time period.

Acoustic Wave Therapy (SoftWave Tissue Regenerative Therapy)

Def: Sound waves that penetrate into the damaged tissue and break up the adhesions and fibrotic tissue that is causing the dimpling of the skin.  The braking down of the damaged tissue then stimulates the body to pull in stem cells to regenerate that tissue with more elasticity.  This procedure has the potential to have permanent results for years.

  • Application: Non-Invasive
  • Results: Significant reduction of appearance of cellulite that last for a year or longer
  • Cost: $2,000 to $2,500
Laser Treatment (Cellulaze)

Def: Laser fiber is inserted beneath the skin.  When the laser is fired, the laser energy breaks up the tough bands beneath the skin that cause us to see the cellulite.

  • Application: Invasive
  • Results: Some dimpling usually returns; results last 6 months or longer
  • Cost: $2500 to $9500 (depending on treatment area)
Subcision (Cellfina)

Def: Dermatologist inserts needles under the skin to microblade the connective tissue under the skin that is fibrotic and causing the dimpling of the skin.
Application: Invasive
Results: Moderate reduction of appearance of cellulite that last for a year or longer

  • Cost: $2000 to $5000
Vacuum-Assisted Precise Tissue Release (similar to liposuction)

Def: Dermatologist inserts small blades under the skin to cut the tough fibrotic bands under the skin that cause the dimpling.

  • Application: Invasive
  • Results: Moderate reduction of appearance of cellulite that last for a year or longer
  • Cost: $3000 to $5000
Carboxytherapy

Def: Medical doctor inserts/injects carbon dioxide gas beneath the skin.

  • Application: Invasive
  • Results: Minimal and temporary
  • Cost: $1600 to $2000
Creams and lotions

Def: Apply lotions topically to the skin daily that contain aminophylline and caffeine.  Aminophylline is known to cause breathing problems with patients.

  • Application: Non-Invasive
Results: Minimal and temporary with ongoing treatment
  • Cost: $1560 every 6 months
Endermologie

Def: Deep massage with a vacuum like tool.

  • Application: Non-Invasive
